Wardian: A Workspace for Coordinating Coding Agents

Coding agents are commonly used as isolated terminal sessions. That works for a single bounded task, but becomes difficult when several agents are researching, implementing, reviewing, or waiting for input at the same time. Wardian is a desktop workspace for making that work visible and coordinated without replacing the underlying command-line agents.
Each managed agent keeps its own identity, role, provider, workspace, terminal, status, and durable habitat. Wardian adapts real provider CLIs into a common lifecycle while preserving their native terminal behavior. The workbench can place agent sessions beside project files, source control, a task queue, reusable prompts and skills, or automation state, so that coordination remains connected to the evidence of what each agent actually did.

The central design goal is inspectability. Prompts and structured requests can be sent through the interface or CLI; agent output and completion evidence remain reviewable; and reusable practices can be promoted into roles, skills, prompts, or automation templates. Agents can also receive isolated Git worktrees when concurrent code changes need stronger boundaries.
Wardian is local-first infrastructure rather than a hosted agent service. A Rust and Tauri backend supervises real pseudoterminals and persists state locally, while a React and TypeScript frontend presents the workbench. The same local runtime supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, with provider-specific adapters handling differences in session identity, permission hooks, transcript capture, and completion detection.
The longer-term direction is a malleable environment for agent work: repeated instructions become reusable capabilities, successful workflows become inspectable automations, and completed work remains available as evidence rather than disappearing into terminal scrollback. The project is under active development, so the interface and supported workflows continue to evolve with the reliability demands exposed by everyday use.
